BACKGROUND:
In December, 1994 the Board of Supervisors reconstituted the Fish and Wildlife
Committee. The Committee consists of nine members, one appointed by each member
of the Board of Supervisors and four at-large members nominated by the Internal
Operations Committee.
On August 7, 1995, our Committee indicated that we wanted to interview all of the
applicants for the Fish and Wildlife Committee.
The applicants were all invited to be interviewed on October 16, 1995. We interviewed
six applicants at that time and then talked on the telephone with two additional applicants
who were unable to be present for the interview but were most anxious to be considered
for the vacant positions.
Based on our interviews, as has so often been the case with other advisory boards, we
were tremendously impressed with the quality of the applicants, in terms of their education,
background, skills and interest in the general subject matter of fish and wildlife. We have
agreed to recommend the above noted four individuals, although we hope that all of the
applicants will continue to be interested in the work of the Committee and will make
themselves available for future appointments as vacancies occur.

FOLLO -UP TO REPORT FROM THE INTERNAL OPERATIONS
Subject: COMMITTEE ON REESTABLISHING A FISH& WILDLIFE COMMITTEE
The following is in response to your memo, to include attachments, December,19, 1994, subject
as above.
The Office of the Sheriff is interested in providing staff support to the Fish&Wildlife Committee.
Lieutenant D. Hunt, Patrol Division, Delta Station Commander, has been designated to represent
me in this matter. I believe his participation on the committee itself would be most appropriate in
that Lieutenant Hunt's area of responsibility includes a large portion of the Delta Waterways and
the Marine Patrol Unit. Additionally, clerical support will be provided by the Patrol Division.
If you have further questions or need additional assistance at this time, please feel free to contact
Lieutenant Hunt.

As an aquatic biologist, I work on aquatic issues regarding the.licensing of new
and existing hydroelectric projects. I serve as PG&E's Technical and Ecological
Services Department principal investigator for the Crane Valley Project,Tule
River Project, and the Spring Gap-Stanislaus Project. I am also a Project

evaluating the US Fish and Wildlife Service's Instream Flow Incremental
Methodology;results of the research will be used on PG&E's numerous hydro
relicensing projects in the late 1990s. I have contributed to numerous filings and
reports for PG&E during licensing proceedings and compliance-related situations

for Kem River, Crane Valley,Tule River, Spring Gap-Stanislaus,Haas-Kings
River, Helms Pumped Storage, and Drum Spaulding. I have performed quality
surveillance work using SCUBA on a liquefied natural gas project and currently
perform SCUBA services for Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant and other fossil
fuel plants. I also have been serving on the Contra Costa County Fish and
Wildlife Committee since 1986.
1980 Fisheries technician, Pacific Marine Fisheries,Portland, Oregon.
I took part in an ongoing study of marine mammals(primarily the California sea
Eon)and their interactions with the sport and commercial fishing boats of
Berkeley, San Francisco, Sausalito, and Bodega harbors.
1979-1980 Fisheries aide, California Department of Fish and Game,Monterey, California.
Pacific herring were studied during their spawning season in Tomales Bay,
California. Eelgrass beds were sampled for herring spawns throughout the bay. If
spawns were found, collections were made and eggs were counted to estimate the
number of tons of herring that had spawned. This information was used to
determine catch quotas in subsequent years. Fish length, weight, sex, maturity,
and age(otoliths)were determined from commercial catches.
1979 Fisheries technician, Sonoma County Planning Department, Santa Rosa,
California.
This was a part-time field research position to study the effects of gravel dredging
on the fisheries of the Russian River,Austin Creek, and Dry Creek in Sonoma
County.
1978-1979 Biology instructor, Indian Valley Colleges,Novato, California.
As a part-time temporary instructor for three semesters and two summers, I
taught: Biology of Animals(Bio l lb), Field Biology(Bio 101),and Animal
Biology(Bio 105)for nonmajors.
1978-1979 Biology instructor,Dominican College, San Rafael,California.
This was a part-time temporary position for the fall and spring semesters. I taught
General Zoology(Bio 3)and Human Anatomy and Physiology(Bio 101b).
1977-1978 Teaching assistant, Sonoma State University,Rohnert Park, California.
For this temporary position lasting one full school year at the University,I taught
the Zoology Laboratory for both fail and spring semesters.
1976-1977 Fisheries aide, California Department of Fish and Game,Yountville, California.
I worked as field biologist on the striped bass program at Lake Mendocino,
California. Duties included trapping fish, collecting stomachs and scales from
fish,monitoring water quality,and data analysis.
1976 Consultant,Madrone Associates,Novato, California.
In this temporary position,I conducted a literature search for information about
the mammals, amphibians, and reptiles of the Estero's American and de San
Antonio in Sonoma County. Local experts were interviewed for additional
information.
