20TH ANNIVERSARY OF SERVICE TO]
THE HUNGRY AND NEEDY OF CONTRA]
COSTA COUNTY AND PROCLAIMING ]
OCTOBER 15-21 AS NATIONAL FOOD]
BANK WEEK ]
WHEREAS, THE CONTRA COSTA FOOD BANK was created by the Board of Supervisors in
1975 with the goal of providing cost effective, efficient collection and
distribution of food to alleviate hunger, and;
WHEREAS, THE CONTRA COSTA FOOD BANK distributes 6 dollars of food for every 1
dollar received. In 1994, the Food Bank gave out 4.5 million pounds of food.
They provide food to 37,500 people each month, and;
WHEREAS, THE CONTRA COSTA FOOD BANK operates several worthy and necessary
programs including: the SENIOR BROWN BAG program serving 2,550 elderly, FOOD FOR
CHILDREN feeding 425 youth monthly and FOOD BAGS for thousands monthly. PROJECT
GLEAN harvests excess fruits and vegetables from throughout Contra Costa County
to be distributed through the Food Bank, and;
WHEREAS, THE CONTRA COSTA FOOD BANK has a dedicated staff and strong community
support through a local network of 200 charities, the television and radio
stations, and the commitment of many hundred volunteers:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County honors, recognizes and commends during the NATIONAL FOOD BANK WEEK,
THE CONTRA COSTA FOOD BANK
for its 20 years of excellent service to the hungry of Contra Costa County.
PASSED by vote of the Board members present on this 17th day of October, 1995.
