The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County Resolves That:
It appears from evidence presented by the County Building Inspector the above subject property has a substandard
uninhabitable structure that constitutes a hazard to and endangers the health, safety and welfare of the public.
The structure is hereby declared substandard and a public nuisance. The owner of the subject property is hereby ordered
to demolish the structure and clear the site of all debris and leave it in a clean graded condition, or to abate the nuisance
by repair.
If the subject property has not been cleared as ordered within thirty(30)days from the date of this hearing,the Board hereby
grants authority to the Building Inspection Department to contract for the clearing of the subject property.,In the event the
County must contract for the work to be done, a lien shall be placed against the subject property for the cost of the
abatement.
The Building Inspection Department is directed to post and mail notices of this resolution directing abatement of the nuisance
in the manner required by law and for the period required prior to any actual abatement.

The above mentioned property ties directly behind ours.The rear of the structure is only 2 feet
away from our backyard fence.From our backyard we can see a bumed dorm structure with
boarded Mndows. It is a fire hazard and a security hazard. We have a full grown German
Shepherd dog prowling in our bachyBrd as a security measure_
One night, less than 2 years ago I personaNy had to chase array squatters who were partying on
the prnparty grounds. We have often heard people roaming inside of it. tt is not a comfortable
feeling especially considering that we have a child.
Before the current softening of the real estate fittliteyt we had our property listed for sate. Other
properties in the neighborhood solar, ours did not.Yet,we have one of the nicest houses in the
block. We know that at least two prospective buyers specifically asked about tate'abandoned
house"in the back.
We have often hoped that someone would table an interest and buy the property and rebuild.As
a m,atler of fart,our agent,Wendy Bakkenta,with Mason WDuf6ie in Albany acid locate an
architect who was interested in buying the property for redevelopment.After a number of weeks
of trying to contact the owners or the real estate agent listed on what appears to be a perennial
for sale sign on the property(tire phone number given on the sign is answered by a fax
machine),the architect did finalty reach someone.The aslaing price for the land was almost the
same as that far a house in good comlition in this iw4h dwod. Upwards of$100,0W.001
We have, a serious problem hare. And we must do something about it now before it is too late. A
propeity suob as that,attracts tfie kinds of problems which we as tax payers have to be
respqnsible for resKalving because tate rightful owners do not care to do so. if there is a fine there
is a danger of multiple houses being an fire because of the proximity of the 8bandoned property
to others.That means having to utilize the services of an already overstre4ched fire department_
The security problems mean flaying to ssk for help from an already very busy sheriff's
department. And, last, but not lei,every neigt bzft insuriirrce coverage would be adversely
affected if a disaster occurred. Not soomething one ems to contemplate in that ouorent Califomia
real estate insurance market_
Because of family problems we vAll be linable to attend the meating on 10,1 0. But we are asking
our next door neighbors Kalle Nemvelts and Connie Williams to represent us at that meaning.

to appear before the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, at
a meeting to be held Tuesday October 10, 1995, at the Board meeting
room 107, 651 Pine Street, Martinez, at 9:45 A.M. or as soon after
as this matter may be heard, and show cause, if any, why said
building should not be condemned as a public nuisance, and the
nuisance be abated by properly repairing, reconstructing, razing or
removing the building.
