APPOINT to the Better Government Task Force, representing the Radio/Television News Directors Association, as nominated by the Radio/Television News Directors Association: Richard Fitzmaurice Director, Public Affairs Pacific Telesis Group 2600 Camino Ramon 1 E104 San Ramon, CA 94583 BACKGROUND: On February 14, 1995 the Board of Supervisors formed a Better Government Task Force of 9 members, composed as follows: 2 members representing the Society of Professional Journalists, one an attorney and one a local journalist. 1 member selected from names submitted by the Radio-Television News Directors Association. 1 member representing the League of Women Voters. 1 member designated by the Board of Supervisors. 2 County department heads nominated by the County Administrator 2 members of the General Public who have demonstrated interest in or have experience in the issues of citizen access and participation in local government. On September 26, 1995, the Board of Supervisors appointed the two general public members to the Task Force. Most of the remaining nominations have now been made by the groups designated to make nominations, as is noted above. It is, therefore, appropriate to make the above appointments. The one remaining seat is the one which is to be designated by the Board of Supervisors. At some point in the near future the Board should give some thought to who it wishes to appoint for this remaining seat. The role of the Task Force, as set forth in the Ordinance establishing the Task Force is to: 1. Advise the Board of Supervisors and provide information to County departments on appropriate ways to implement the Better Government Ordinance. 2. Recommend appropriate goals to ensure practical and timely implementation of the Better Government Ordinance. 3. Propose to the Board of Supervisors amendments to the Better Government Ordinance. 4. Report to the Board of Supervisors on any practical or policy problems encountered in the administration of the Better Government Ordinance. -2- 5.
