THIS IS A MATTER FOR RECORD PURPOSES ONLY NO BOARD ACTION TAKEN 16SACC ., O ° )X TOBACCO PREVENTION PROJECT a ) r CONTRA COSTA COUNTY HEALTH SERVICE&DEPARTMENT O m 4RS 0 1 MEMORANDUM TO: Jim Rogers, Contra Costa County Board of Supervisor,, FRO - renda Blasingame, Program Servi Coordinator DATE: an 20, 1995 RE: Vision 95', Tobacco Prevention Coalition Event On behalf of the Tobacco Prevention Coalition I am writing to give you information on the community based organization(s) that you will be awarding a certificate(s) to next Tuesday at the Tobacco Prevention Coalition's Vision 95' Celebration. The organization(s) you will be presenting a certificate to is located in your district. DISTRICT I Lao Family Community Development: Lao Family was one of two ethnic specific programs funded to provide tobacco prevention and education in Contra Costa County. Lao Family provided services in the Southeast Asian community in West County. This project worked with Southeast Asian youth in elementary through high school, as well as hard to reach out-of-school youth and their families. The program worked to teach peer and family educators on issues of tobacco addiction and secondhand smoke so that they could educate others in their community. Lao Family reached over 3000 people in the West County Southeast Asian community with their anti-tobacco message. United Concilio West: Was one the other ethnic specific program that was funded to provide tobacco specific education in the West County Latino community. UCW developed and implemented the Teatro that performed for us here today. This group has received much recognition for efforts in tobacco prevention and also in working with high risk youth. Gateway Project: Gateway developed a Tobacco Prevention Team of students from El Cerrito High School that worked:on increasing the awareness of teachers, students of El Cerrito, and other peers throughout the'West Contra Costa School District about tobacco addiction.
