The next meeting of the Ad-Hoc Committee is scheduled for January 12, 1995 at 3:00 p.m. in Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier's office. BACKGROUND: The Ad-Hoc Committee met with the health care consultant, Dr. Henry Zaretsky, staff members and members of the public and press on December 29, 1994. Dr. Zarestsky reported on his planning and schedule for the report he has been asked to prepare on hospital and health care alternatives. The Committee asked that Dr. Zaretsky have his final report ready for discussion by the Board of Supervisors on January 24, 1995. In order to meet the short time line for completion he agreed to be available for interested persons to meet with him on January 9, 1995 in the Bay Room of the George Gordon Center all day. Dr. Zaretsky requested that to the extent possible, written material be prepared and submitted to him through the members of the Ad-Hoc Committee, Supervisors Torlakson and DeSaulnier. Health Services staff reported that after substantial effort an agreement has been executed with Los Medanos Hospital for the continued operation of the Regency Hills Convalescent Home under the Merrithew Hospital license. This action will restore the Skilled Nursing Facility status and funding level from the State and avoids the closure of the facility with the resultant relocation of the patients. The Committee recommends high commendations for the Health Service staff that were able to work through and complete this complicated transaction.
