SUBJECT: Canal Road Property Assemblage
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS (S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS
AUTHORIZE Deputy Director - Redevelopment to execute a Project
Agreement and Work Program with Contra Costa County for the provision
of real property and relocation services related to the assemblage of
properties along realigned Canal Road (formerly Amerson Avenue) .
FISCAL IMPACT
No General Funds are involved. Funds to purchase the property and
relocate the current residents would come entirely from Bay Point
Redevelopment Agencytbond proceeds .
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
As part of the Bailey Road interchange improvements, Canal Road in the
Bay Point area was realigned. Three properties that formerly fronted
on Amerson Avenue now front on realigned Canal Road. These three
properties were not necessary for the Bailey Road interchange project.
The properties are no longer appropriate for residential use, and do

represent an opportunity for strategic acquisition for future
economic development purposes .
The recommended action will permit the Public Works Department,
Real Property Division, to provide real property services for the
acquisition, relocation and clearance of the properties under
contract to the Redevelopment Agency. The Agency would anticipate
acquisition (by negotiation) in May or June of 1995,1 with
relocation and site clearance to follow.
