RESOLUTION NO. 95/,1-590,,
SUBJECT: Support for the construction of the Delta DeAnza Trail.
The Board of Supervisors, by Resolution:
SUPPORT East Bay Regional Park District's Delta DeAnza Regional Trail grant
application to the Transportation Enhancement Activities Program (TEA) of the Intermodal
Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA).
Financial Impact:
The total estimated cost of the project is $850,000. The project will be funded using TEA
funds ($637,500)with East Bay Regional Park District providing the remainder as the local
match.
There is no impact to the General Fund.
Reasons for Recommendation and Back-round:
The proposed project consists of constructing approximately 3.2 km (2 miles) of Class I
regional bicycle trail between the East Bay Municipal Utility District's aqueduct and
Railroad Avenue in the community of Bay Point in Contra Costa County. The trail will
consist of an 8 foot wide asphalt concrete surface with 2 foot shoulders. The trail will link
the Bay Point BART station scheduled to open in late 1996, to commercial centers,
schools, and parks in the community of Bay Point and the City of Pittsburg.
Overall, the Delta DeAnza trail is a multi-modal trail between Concord and Oakley which
combines all of the key ingredients of the ISTEA (TEA) program. When complete, the
Delta DeAnza trail will connect six communities, schools, community facilities, and BART.
The trail will provide a safe non-motorized transportation route for pedestrians and
bicyclists in eastern Contra Costa County.
