SUBJECT: APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF CHANGE ORDER NO. 37 TO
CONTRACT FOR BID PACKAGE NO. 2-SITE PREPARATION AT MERRITHEW
MEMORIAL HOSPITAL REPLACEMENT, 2500 ALHAMBRA AVE. , MARTINEZ
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDATION
1 . APPROVE Change Order No. 37 to the Contract dated October 5,
1993 , for Site Preparation - Demolition, Relocation and
Modifications of Existing Structures and Features, and the
Widening of Street No. 4 at Merrithew Memorial Hospital, 2500
Alhambra Avenue, Martinez, and AUTHORIZE the County .
Administrator or his designee to execute the Change Order,
which provides for (1) reimbursement for loss due to idle
equipment, jobsite supervision and jobsite office due to the
unavailability of contract work-February through November
1994 and (2) the installation of a water line along Street 4
due to design conflicts .
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds in the capital account established for the project are
sufficient to cover the amount encumbered by this contract, from
bond proceeds specified to the project. Bond financing for the
total project cost was secured in May, 1992 in accordance with the
Board of Supervisors direction.

III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION
On October 5, 1993 , the County awarded the contract to the lowest
responsive and responsible bidder, Joe Carone, Inc . The new
guaranteed maximum cost will exceed the total estimated cost
stated in the construction contract agreement approved by the
Board on October 5, 1993 . Since the last Board Order, the
following Change Orders have been approved: No. 29 through No. 36 .
Change Order No. 37 is a settlement of dispute in the amount of
$97 , 348 . 00 . The new guaranteed maximum cost will be
$2 , 192 , 931 . 32 , an increase of $190, 304 . 38 .
