Costa DATE: OCTOBER 6, 1994 �`�"�' ��`� County �ri'coui+�,Or SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF 1994 HEAD START SUPPLEMENTAL GRANT FUNDS; AUTHORIZE DELEGATE AGENT CONTRACT AMENDMENTS SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I . RECOMMENDED ACTION ACCEPT 1994 Head Start Supplemental grant funds in the amount of $156,484; and AUTHORIZE the Community Services Director or her designee to execute Contract Amendments with Head Start Delegate Agents : Head Start Delegate Agents Amendment Amount Bayo Vista Child and Family Center $ 32, 761 Family Stress Center 19,336 First Baptist Church (Pittsburg) 17,017 United Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations 23, 054 Totals $ 92, 168 The balance of $64,316 will go toward the Grantee's portion of the Head Start program. II . FINANCIAL IMPACT The above referenced $156,484 is funded entirely from a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families (Grant Number 09CH0375/29) . The Community Services Department received a financial assistance award for the above amount on Monday, October 3, 1994 . Funding for the Contract Amendments for the period of January 1, 1994, through December 31, 1994 , is reflected in the Department's 1994-95 County budget. No County general funds are involved with this request. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION A decision not to accept this grant or approve the above listed contract amendments would result in the loss of needed Head Start services to approximately 1, 122 children and families in Contra Costa County. IV. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDED ACTION Each year, the County is given the opportunity to submit an application to ACF for supplemental funds. The above referenced Contract Amendments will be reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form prior to issuance.
