HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10181994 - 1.19 Board of Supervisors Of Contra Costa County, State of California IN THE MATTER OF PROCLAIMING THE WEEK I RESOLUTION NO.L4—/513 OF OCTOBER 23, 1994, "BATTERED WOMEN'S I ALTERNATIVES WEEK' IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY--------- WHEREAS, Battered Women's Alternatives provides housing, counseling, and legal and employment assistance to battered women, counseling to their children, and treatment to men who are abusive; and WHEREAS, BWA helped 8,000 women experiencing violence last year, trained 5,963 young people in violence and abuse prevention, and educated 14,749 adults on domestic violence; and WHEREAS, domestic violence is deadly. One quarter of adult female deaths in Contra Costa County from 1991-1993 were confirmed as domestic violence, five of these women were BWA clients. Of the 27 female suicides in 1991, 3 had sought help from BWA; and WHEREAS, BWA is the only domestic violence agency in the County and has been widely recognized for innovative and superior services; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors declares the week of October 23, 1994 BATTERED WOMEN'S ALTERNATIVES WEEK in Contra Costa County and publicly acknowledges and thanks BWA for helping families in our community. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON October 18, 1994 by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
