All are crowded and dirty with books in disarray. Upon further library use, one discovers relatively few new books, missing books currently appearing as still available on the computer-directories, long waits for books that are available, not to mention vastly curtailed hours. Recently I attended a Walnut Creek City Council meeting specifically for the purpose of persuading the City of Walnut Creek contribute funding for Walnut Creek libraries. I was extremely surprised and disappointed when the Walnut Creek City Council voted not to contribute funding-even as a temporary one-shot contribution. Imagine my surprise, also, upon learning not only that the County has been sitting on a library report regarding better utilization of current funding for over a year, but that over $160, 000 currently exists specifically for the purpose of funding the 'rhurmond Casey library. I realize the post Prop. 13 funds shortage, but I can think of no reason why a report over a year old has not been acted on, or why use of the Casey money has not been explored. Surely the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors can do better than this. Sincerely, GSM Karen Mason 210 E1 Divisader o Walnut Creek, CA 94598 (510) 934-2535
