Dear Chairperson:
Enclosed is a copy of our September 27, 1994, Resolution the
Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted in
support of Federal legislation for regulation of ultra-light
aircraft.
Under current Federal law, ultra-.light aircraft are not
required to be registered. or bear identification markings of any
type. Federal law could be amended to require registration of all
ultra-lights and that all ultra-lights have identifying numbers
conspicuously marked on the wings or underside of the aircraft.
I encourage your Board to adopt a similar resolution regarding
ultra-light aircraft and urge you to write your Congressional
Representative to support amending Federal law.

THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED:
IN RE: SUPPORTING ADOPTION OF FEDERAL LEGISLATION FOR REGULATION
OF ULTRA LIGHT AIRCRAFT
WHEREAS, this Board has received complaints from citizens of this
County regarding the operation of ultra light aircraft in Stanislaus
County; and
WHEREAS, current federal laws do not require that ultra light
aircraft be registered or bear any identification marking of any type; and
WHEREAS, local governmental agencies do not possess the legal
authority to regulate ultra light aircraft; and
WHEREAS, this Board believes that registration and marking of ultra
light aircraft would act to assist public entities in identifying ultra
light aircraft which are not being operated in a proper manner;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Stanislaus County Board of
Supervisors does hereby adopt a resolution in support of federal
legislation which calls for the registration and placing of identification
markings on all ultra light aircraft, and does hereby urge Congressman Gary
A. Condit to pursue the adoption of legislation on this issue.
