amount of$90,000 to the Public Works Department and APPROVE appropriation adjustment
transferring monies to Public Works Department.

None. The loan will be repaid with interest over a ten year period of time.
III. Reasons for Recommendations and Background:
The Public Works Department wishes to start a Child Care Center for preschool children of
County employees. A year or so ago, a few Public Works employees approached the Public
Works Director with the idea of starting a child care facility at the Public Works building located

together they researched information and explored the possibilities of such a center. As part

Child Care Center
December 13, 1994
Page Two
The proposed center will provide care for 20 children: 4 infants and 16 pre-schoolers. Staff will
include 1 Director/Teacher, 1 Teacher, and 2 Aides. The Center will be located in a triple wide trailer
owned by Public Works and currently located on the property. The Center will pay for itself from the
fees collected by the County employees using the facility. But money is needed for start up costs and
this loan will be used for that purpose. Some of these start up costs include facility modifications, play
ground equipment, toys, furniture, and fencing. The amount of the loan plus interest at 5 percent will
be paid back over ten years.
IV. Consequences of Negative Action:
The Child Care Center will not become a reality and the opportunity to provide County
employees with child care at their worksite or immediately there to will be lost.
