HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11081994 - 1.45 In the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County In The Metter of Reloletion No. 94/557 Commending Kiwanis International, Diarist 26, in Resognition of Dedicated Community Urries and Outstanding Leadership in the 'Shots for Tots' Program WHEREAS, Kiwanis International is a private, non-profit, non-denominational, non-political organization, founded on January 21, 1915, in Detroit, Michigan, as a businessman's organization. Today, it is an international organization consisting if 8,608 clubs with o total membership of 326,055 men and women operating in 77 geographic areas; WHEREAS, Kiwanis International is dedicated to community service and subscribes to the following objectives: To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than the material values of life, To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships, To promote the adoption and the application of bilker social, business, and professional standards, To develop, by precept and example, a mare intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship, To provide, through Kiwanis Club, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities, To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will- WHEREAS, Division 26, a part of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, has 453 members and presently consists of eight clubs serving Central and Eastern Contra Costa County. This year District members have already donated over 16,692 volunter hours and $103,135 to community service; WHEREAS, working with the Children's Safety Network and Immunization Programs, Division 26 has been a leader in the "Shots for Tots" Program with members contributing hundreds of hours raising the level of awareness for the need for immunization for Diptheris, Polio, Mumps, Haemophilus, sod Hepatitus 8, at all economic levels throughout the county. Kiwanis members set up informational tables at shopping malls and worked with the County Health Department and with public and private schools throughout the division to package and distribute 70,000 informational flyers in both English sod Spanish. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors commends Kiwanis Internaticoal, Division 26, for their outstanding and dedicated community service, donating,valuable time and talent participating in several county programs that benefits youth and senior citizens and the entire community, and particularly for their valuable participation in the "Shots for Tots" Program. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 8th Day of November, 1994. 1 certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an Order entered into the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
