U)MC;:A WbTA WULWXY PRIVATE INDUSTRY COUNCIL 2425 BISSO LANE, SUITE 100 CbNCORD, CA 94520 646-5239 DATE: July 29, 1993 cc: TO: Sara Hoffman, Deputy CAO County Administrator's Office FROM: / Arthur . Miner, xecutive Director SUBJECT: Private Industry Council P300 - PIC WEX CLASSIFICATION Attached for freeze review and approval is a P300 to establish a new classification tentatively titled PIC Work Experience Trainee - Project. The new JTPA amendments effective 7/1/93 establish work experience as an allowable training activity. Since one of the major barriers to employment is lack of work experience, we were very pleased to see the regulatory change. This will allow us to provide quality supervised work experience and also allow participants to earn income, while in vocational training. Attached is a draft classification. Note that tenure is limited. Theoretically, WEX positions could be established in any non political County office, but we would not be able to place participants with any department that had layoffs and an active layoff list. Unless we outstation participants with non-profits or public agencies, I doubt we will have more than 5 participants employed at any one time. ACM:bal Attachment i L 15%131 I tJ.i
