"Bring Them Home! " ) RESOLUTION NO. 93/613
WHEREAS, a national movement called "P.O.W./M.I.A. " has been formed in
an attempt to place and keep facts before the public documenting that
many Americans, mostly military men, may still be alive, or were alive
for considerable time following the national policy decision to abandon
and forget them despite their heroism and the incredibly cruel and
brutal treatment they have endured as prisoners during and after World
Wars I, II , Korea, the Cold War, and Southeast Asia; and
WHEREAS, the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee Minority
Staff has published a report, "An Examination of United States Policy
Toward POW/MIAs, " which is available by calling (510) 937-1405, or the
Senate Document Room at (202) 224-7860,. or the offices of Senator
Barbara Boxer (202) 224-3553, Senator Dianne Feinstein (202) 224-3841,
or Vice Chairman of the 1992 Senate Temporary Select Committee on
POW/MIA Affairs, Senator Bob Smith (202) 224-2841; and
WHEREAS, the United States Congress continues to support this very
important movement by displaying the POW/MIA flag prominently in the
Capitol Rotunda, and likewise the California State legislature by flying
the flag over the Capitol, and any interested parties should support
this movement by placing this logo on bumper stickers, t-shirts, decals,
posters, buttons, in commercial advertising, and many other formats,
acknowledging resolutions by local government bodies, families,
churches, businesses, clubs, lodges, organizations, committees,
associations and many other groups; and
WHEREAS, some might ask: "Why the month of November?" We would
respond: "Because November' s first national holiday, formerly Armistice
Day, now Veterans' Day, turns Americans' thoughts toward loved ones who
sacrificed so much in preserving our freedom; and November' s second
national holiday, Thanksgiving, recognizes and calls us to be thankful
for our many blessings, including our freedom. " During November we join
with many others in encouraging increased understanding and awareness of
this POW/MIA issue; and
WHEREAS, each and every county throughout the State of California, as
well as nationwide, is encouraged to recognize and proclaim the month of
November as POW/MIA "Bring Them Home! "
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of Contra
Costa County, does hereby SUPPORT and PROCLAIM November as POW/MIA
