HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10191993 - X.1 X ► IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring October 23, ) 1993, as SOROPTIMIST;PINK RIBBON ) RESOLUTION NO. 931 610 DAY in Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS, Soroptimist International is the world's largest classified service organization dedicated to improving the status of women everywhere; and WHEREAS, breast cancer is a disease that affects both men and women; and WHEREAS, studies predict one in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime; and WHEREAS, the pink ribbon is a recognized symbol of breast cancer awareness; and WHEREAS, awareness and education are important factors in the prevention and early treatment of this potentially fatal disease; and WHEREAS, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and October 23 is National Make a Difference Day. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares October 23, 1993, as SOROPTIMIST PINK RIBBON DAY and encourages citizen action to support Soroptimist efforts on this day to educate the public and to raise funds for breast cancer research. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON October 19, 1993, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
