RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve a resolution (see Exhibit A) requesting Caltrans and our
legislative delegation to expedite and move forward with a public
roadside rest area along the Highway 50 Corridor between Pollock
Pines and Meyers.

None.
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
On August 17, the Board of Supervisors referred to the
Transportation Committee a request from the El Dorado County Board
of Supervisors to support a public roadside rest area along the
Highway 50 Corridor between Pollock Pines and Meyers. Contra Costa
County staff is not aware of the competing priorities that have
prevented construction of the proposed rest area. The
Transportation Committee recommends approval of a resolution that
identifies the need for this facility and supports its construction
(see Exhibit A) . Copies of the resolution should be circulated to
our State and Federal legislative delegation and the Eldorado
County Board of Supervisors.

RESOLUTION NO. 93/633
The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County RESOLVES THAT:
WHEREAS, the Highway 50 corridor leading from Placerville to South Lake Tahoe is one the
State's most scenic highways and is a direct link to the Lake Tahoe Basin, one the most
environmentally sensitive areas in the world; and
WHEREAS, annually more than 9,000,000 people travel the Highway 50 corridor between
Placerville and South Lake Tahoe, many from the Bay Area, including Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, Highway 50 between Placerville and South Lake Tahoe, a distance of over 60
miles, has no public restroom facilities and the few existing commercial establishments along the
Highway 50 corridor have limited sewage disposal capabilities; and
WHEREAS, a public roadside rest area is needed due to the length of the drive from
Placerville to South Lake Tahoe, winter road closures and holiday traffic conditions; and
WHEREAS, Highway 50 from Placerville to Meyers is a designated scenic highway; and
WHEREAS, the Highway 50 corridor is maintained by Caltrans and for numerous years has
promised a public roadside rest area which to date has not come to fruition;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors
urgently request Caltrans and our legislators to expedite and move forward with a public roadside
rest area to include restroom facilities along the Highway 50 corridor between Pollock Pines and
Meyers.
