HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10191993 - TC.4 T,C. 4- == Costa TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS -j Costa FROM: Transportation Committee County DATE: October 11, 1993 SUBJECT: Report on Request by E1 Dorado County to Support Roadside Rest Area Along Highway 50 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS Approve a resolution (see Exhibit A) requesting Caltrans and our legislative delegation to expedite and move forward with a public roadside rest area along the Highway 50 Corridor between Pollock Pines and Meyers. FISCAL IMPACT None. BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS On August 17, the Board of Supervisors referred to the Transportation Committee a request from the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors to support a public roadside rest area along the Highway 50 Corridor between Pollock Pines and Meyers. Contra Costa County staff is not aware of the competing priorities that have prevented construction of the proposed rest area. The Transportation Committee recommends approval of a resolution that identifies the need for this facility and supports its construction (see Exhibit A) . Copies of the resolution should be circulated to our State and Federal legislative delegation and the Eldorado County Board of Supervisors. Contact Person:Steve Goetz, 646-2134 ATTESTED (,�-�, L- -�L- cc: El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (via CDD) PHIL BATCHELOR, CLERK OF Federal Legislative Delegation (via CDD) THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS State Legislative Delegation (via CDD) AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR BY '`l , DEPUTY Exhibit A IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA SUBJECT: Expedite Roadside Rest Area ) Along Highway 50 Corridor ) RESOLUTION NO. 93/633 The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County RESOLVES THAT: WHEREAS, the Highway 50 corridor leading from Placerville to South Lake Tahoe is one the State's most scenic highways and is a direct link to the Lake Tahoe Basin, one the most environmentally sensitive areas in the world; and WHEREAS, annually more than 9,000,000 people travel the Highway 50 corridor between Placerville and South Lake Tahoe, many from the Bay Area, including Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS, Highway 50 between Placerville and South Lake Tahoe, a distance of over 60 miles, has no public restroom facilities and the few existing commercial establishments along the Highway 50 corridor have limited sewage disposal capabilities; and WHEREAS, a public roadside rest area is needed due to the length of the drive from Placerville to South Lake Tahoe, winter road closures and holiday traffic conditions; and WHEREAS, Highway 50 from Placerville to Meyers is a designated scenic highway; and WHEREAS, the Highway 50 corridor is maintained by Caltrans and for numerous years has promised a public roadside rest area which to date has not come to fruition; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors urgently request Caltrans and our legislators to expedite and move forward with a public roadside rest area to include restroom facilities along the Highway 50 corridor between Pollock Pines and Meyers.
