APPOINT to the Hazardous Materials Commission as an alternate to the environmental organization seat for an unexpired term ending December 31, 1993 : Sabiha Gokcen, PhD c/o Communities For a Safe Environment 321 G Street Martinez, CA 94553 BACKGROUND: The term of office for the current environmental organization representative (alternate) on the Hazardous Materials Commission expires December 31, 1993 . Sabiha Gokcen has been nominated to complete the unexpired term of Helene Willson. In addition to the technical expertise she will bring to the Commission - she holds a PhD in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley and B.S . degrees in biochemistry and microbiology - Dr. Gokcen has been active in environmental and community organizations at a local and national level . She is a member of the National Organization of Women and Vice-President of the Contra Costa Chapter of the National Women' s Political Caucus. Dr. Gokcen comes highly recommended by the Communities For a Safe Environment and will be a valuable asset to the Hazardous Materials Commission. Our Committee is pleased to recommend that the Board of Supervisors appoint Dr. Gokcen as an alternate to the Hazardous Materials Commission.
