APPOINT to the Hazardous Materials Commission as an alternate to the environmental organization seat for an unexpired term ending December 31, 1993 : Sabiha Gokcen, PhD c/o Communities For a Safe Environment 321 G Street Martinez, CA 94553 BACKGROUND: The term of office for the current environmental organization representative (alternate) on the Hazardous Materials Commission expires December 31, 1993 . Sabiha Gokcen has been nominated to complete the unexpired term of Helene Willson. In addition to the technical expertise she will bring to the Commission - she holds a PhD in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley and B.S . degrees in biochemistry and microbiology - Dr. Gokcen has been active in environmental and community organizations at a local and national level . She is a member of the National Organization of Women and Vice-President of the Contra Costa Chapter of the National Women' s Political Caucus. Dr. Gokcen comes highly recommended by the Communities For a Safe Environment and will be a valuable asset to the Hazardous Materials Commission. Our Committee is pleased to recommend that the Board of Supervisors appoint Dr. Gokcen as an alternate to the Hazardous Materials Commission. Individuals of all backgrounds, training and education are appointed to the advisory groups. Some are selected because of their expertise in the subject matter.
