Our Committee met with the Director, GMEDA on October 11, 1993 . Neither our Committee nor staff are familiar with all of the applicants for the two committees. We are, therefore, suggesting that the Board members review the applications and provide their comments and suggestions to the Community Development Director. We would appreciate having these comments submitted within the next two to three weeks . Our Committee will then interview all of the applicants and make recommendations to the Board on which individuals should be appointed to which committee. FISCAL IMPACT: Unclear whether staff time for this project will be reimbursed. BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS: On August 17, 1993, the Board referred this item to the Internal Operations Committee. A copy of the original request-for-applicants' letter is attached, along with a list of names, .by category, of the applicants, and a copy of the thank you letter sent to each of the applicants. At this time, twenty eight names have been submitted. Some have requested a specific committee while others have requested participation on both committees. You will notice that the categories of Labor, Education, and Regulator are deficient in applicants. Staff can pursue these areas further, if requested. It is probable that many of these applicants would be willing to serve on both committees, provided time is available. As you may recall, there were two committees with similar composition., though slightly different objectives (notice enclosed). The initial deadline was extended because there weren't enough applicants. Some applicants have requested to be on both committees, some on one. Some categories are heavily represented, while others are not. The Internal Operations Committee will review the candidates' list on October 11. At that time, they will decide the method of final selection. The IO Committee, and subsequently the entire Board, will be looking for a good mix of backgrounds and experience.
