SUBJECT: National Red Ribbon Week
The Board received the presentation on National Red Ribbon Week
Supporting Drug Free Communities in Contra Costa County, and an invitation
to participate in the November 9, 1993 celebration of the Harvest of Hope
across Contra Costa County by convening the Countywide Community
Partnership to celebrate, educate and evaluate progress.
The Board ENDORSES the drug free school runs and the holiday runs,
and COMMENDS the Substance Abuse Commission, members of the
community and staff for developing the substance abuse family contract, the
CARE CARD, and the Public Service Announcements, and requested that
Certificates of Appreciation be presented to them in the Board Chambers at a
future date.

PROCLAMATION
EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE
RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN
OCTOBER 23-31, 1993
WHEREAS, Governor Pete Wilson has declared the week of October 23, 31, 1993, as RED
RIBBON WEEK in the State of California, and communities are uniting their forts to implement
a drug abuse prevention campaign during this week; and
WHEREAS, schools, businesses, churches, hospitals, service clubs, law enforcement,
government agencies, and individuals in the State of California will demonstrate their
commitment for a drug-free society by wearing and displaying red ribbons during this week-long
campaign; and
WHEREAS,-our community recognizes the successful coordination of this week's activities and
events in celebration of drug-free lifestyles put, forth by Delta 2000 and its volunteers and
participating agencies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Pittsburg expresses support for this
unified drug abuse prevention campaign and declares OCTOBER 23-31, 1993, AS RED
RIBBON WEEK in the City of Pittsburg and encourages citizens to participate in, the drug
awareness activities, to mare a visible statement that we are strongly committed to live a health
lifestyle and to pledge: "My Choice---Drug Free!"
