HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10121993 - 1.14 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 93/601 Proclaiming October 16, 1993, as 'Mt.Diablo State Park Visitors Day"in Celebration of the Grand Opening of the Mt. Diablo State Park Summit Museum WHEREAS,the Mt. Diablo Interpretive Association, a non-profit organization which assists the California Department of Parks and Recreation in maintaining Mt. Diablo, has announced the grand opening of the Mt. Diablo State Park Summit Museum on Saturday, October 16, 1993; WHEREAS,the museum building is located at the very top of Mt. Diablo and was constructed in the late 1930's of porous rock making the structure unusable for a Museum/Visitor's Center for which it was intended. Through a great deal of public/private participation in generating funding, the Mt. Diablo Interpretive Association undertook the effort to work with the State Park to waterproof the building and provide the community with this outstanding visitor center; WHEREAS,the museum chronicles the history of the mountain and captures its majesty. The exhibit includes geological information, Native American history and a display about the park's ecosystem. Volunteers from the Mt. Diablo Interpretive Association will staff the museum, conduct tours and provide interpretive work for the public on the immense natural wealth of this beautiful inland mountain; I NOW,THEREFORE,!BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, California, hereby proclaims Saturday, October 16, 1993, as 'Mt.Diablo State Park Visitors Day"in Con- tra Costa County in celebration of the grand opening of the Mt. Diablo State Park Summit Museum and commends the Mt. Diablo Interpretive Association for its outstanding and dedicated efforts to create this museum and visitor center.
