MRA COSTA CO,
Supervisor Tom Torlakson
651 Pine Street
Room 106
Martinez, CA 94553
Dear Supervisor Torlakson:
As a mechanical contracting firm doing business in Contra
Costa County for the past 25 years we feel strongly that
extending the prevailing wage requirements to all
construction jobs in- the county and the execution of union
project agreements will increase the opportunity for fair
competition within the county as well as insuring the
employment of highly trained local residents .
We in the local construction industry have seen increasing
numbers of contracts being awarded to out-of-area/non-union
contractors who hire low wage employees from outside the
county to perform this work. The economic results for the
county as well as the industry have not been good , to say
the least .
We urge you to support this 100; county-wide prevailing wage
plan as one that will help insure fair competition as well
as aid in keeping local residents working on local jobs .
Very truly yours ,

CONTRA C,':
_
This letter is written to express our opinion regarding .
prevailing wage rate policies in Contra Costa County. Our
company, Marelich Mechanical Co. , Inc. is a major contractor
performing work in Contra Costa County.
Our success and our local competitors success is governed to a
large extend by having a uniform wage rate. A uniform wage rate
enables us all to compete on a uniform basis . The ability of the
local competitor to compete against contractors outside this
area, where wages are less, will not only hurt our company, but
— the many local residents who work for us . In the end, the local
economy suffers because the local people are put out of work.
The immediate benefit of having projects built at lower wages
will hurt our local economy and put additional pressure on the
local working man.
We trust we can count on your support for extending the
requirement for paying prevailing wages on projects in Contra
Costa County.
Sincerely,
MARELICH MEC LAICAL
