Dear Ladies & Gentlemen:
At the City Council meeting of December 14, 1992, the San Pablo City Council unanimously
voted to oppose a centralization of all county general assistance/food stamp cases in
Martinez. This action would result in the closure of East and West County General
Assistance Offices and would pose a hardship to recipients of general assistance and food
stamps; including homeless, and disabled persons. Under the centralization plan, applicants
would be required to travel to Martinez for most appointments with eligibility workers and
to pick up checks and food stamps.
The San Pablo City Council opposes the centralization plan as discriminatory, the plan
denies the applicants and recipients the right to equal access to benefits and services.
