Dpar-,RaRrd Members: Employers expect employees to perform their duties in the best interest of the operation. However, there are some employees who go beyond these expectations. This dedication shows itself in times of crisis when the individuals are called upon to use initiative. There are four county employees who fit this group and I believe their efforts merit the attention of the Board of Supervisors. These employees are all members of the Environmental Services at the Pittsburg Health Center. They are: Gilbert Elies Rudy Sanchez Lou Gutierrez Tichi Perez These individuals saved the Health Services and the County hundreds of dollars.Consider the cost of replacing analyzing machines and equipment used at the Pittsburg Clinic Laboratory and the magnitude of their dedication is very apparent. Before October 20th, the roof over the laboratory was removed preparatory to reroofing. At 11:00 P.M. that night,it began to rain. The E.S. workers rejoiced with the rain and then realized that the laboratory had no roof! The water was pouring through the light fixtures and various portions of the exposed roof. The tarps and garbage cans used to protect the laboratory during previous rains were in storage and unavailable. They used their ingenuity by draping everything with plastic liners used for clinic patients. E.S.W, Lou Gutierrez arrived the next morning to find water covering the floors and counters. Water soaked ceiling tiles lay on the counters and the floor tiles were floating. The first Medical Technologist to arrive walked through so much water that his shoes sq uee ked the rest of the day. The eq ui p me nt saved from destruction was: Electronic Blood Cell Counter (Coulter S-790) GI ucose Anal yze r Electrolyte Analyzer Blood Mixing Instrument Oil, Centrifuge Other small items. E.S.W. Lou Gutierrez did an exceptional job of Gleaning up this mess the next morning. I was told of th+1e,actions of the E.S. workers when I returned from vacation.
