PERINATAL CARE COORDINATOR
DEFINITION:
Under general direction, facilitates collaboration and coordination among the
Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) providers; conducts needs
assessments of .low-income pregnant women; analyzes medical data to monitor
perinatal health trends within the County and performs other related work as
required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This single position class is distinguished by its responsibility for
coordinating the implementation of the CPSP program among the variety of
perinatal programs within the department and County-wide. It is distinguished
from Perinatal Substance Abuse Coordinator-Project in that the latter focuses
on policies, programs and activities that will reduce the negative consequences
of perinatal substance abuse in Contra Costa County.
The incumbent of this class works under the direction of the Director, Office
of Service Integration.
TYPICAL TASKS:
- Evaluates and monitors the availability of obstetrical and support service
resources within the community;
- Oversees recruitment a.nd 'or:ientation of new providers;
- Consults with providers regarding program information;
- Assists providers in the design of CPSP services;
- Reviews provider applications for quality and regulatory compliance;
- Develops quality assurance assessment tools for review of CPSP services;
- Plans and/or provides training for provider staff on medical or program
issues;
Facilitates collaboration among CPSP providers;
- Maintains liaison with other local perinatal programs, projects and
activities;
- Collaborates with perinatal health groups and consultants to conduct
health needs assessments of low-income pregnant women;
- Provides technical expertise on the design and implementation of CPSP
health education services;
Vientifies and analyzes medical data to monitor perinatal health trends
wi.t.h.in the County and the impact of CPSP services;
Provides program direction to subordinate staff;

Monitors budget expenditures;
Attends regional and statewide meetings.
MINIMUM UALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or
university with a major in nursing, nutrition or dietetics, social work or a .
closely related health care field.
Certificate Required: Possession of a valid certificate as a Public Health
Nurse issued by the State of California.
Experience: Three years of full-time experience or its equivalent performing
administrative duties or providing direct care services in a perinatal health
care program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the.principles and practices of modern health care administration;
knowledge of current perinatal health care issues and trends that impact health
care delivery; knowledge of Federal, State and County rules and regulations as
they apply to health care delivery; knowledge of modern practices of management
and supervision; ability to gather and analyze factual data; ability to analyze
administrative problems and recommend solutions; ability to plan, direct and
coordinate the work of others; ability to write clear and concise reports and
correspondence; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with professional, medical, administrative and clerical staff and
representatives of_ other agencies.
