CLERK BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Martinez, CA 94553 CONTRs:COSTA CO.
Dear Tom:
Thank you for your letter and report regarding the San Francisco
Regional Poison Control Center. I am aware of the crisis facing
the Centers across the state and have supported legislation aimed
at averting this crisis.
I am happy to report that SB 456 was signed into law, so some
measure of relief is in sight. SB 1016 has. been carried over to
next year, so there is still a possibility of funding the Centers
through the 9-1-1 surplus.
As to the immediate problem in your county, I am afraid I cannot
-_offer any solutions, as the legislature is not empowered to
forbid the San Francisco Center from charging fees to keep its
services running. We can only hope that another source of state
funds can be put in place in the near future.
Sincerely,
DELAINE EASTIN
