TOM TORLAKSON, Chairman Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors CLERK BOARD OFSl3PERVSQRS % Clerk of the Board CONTRA COSTA CO. 651 Pine Street, 1 st Floor Martinez, CA 94553-1286 Dear Mr. Torlakson: The purpose of this letter is to address the current proposal to build a Battered Women's Alternative Shelter in the community of Clyde. In response to a recent newspaper article announcing a fund raiser for this project, we have contacted Lisa Dobey of Battered Women's Alternative regarding this project. We are informed that the Battered Women's Alternative currently has an option to buy approximately one (1) acre of land in Clyde. Ms. Dobey indicates that this option is good through December and that this issue is currently pending action by the Board. In this discussion, Ms. Dobeyfurther indicated that in June orJuly of this year, she contacted Mrs. Dee Kilcoyne regarding addressing Clyde community concerns on this issue. She states that Mrs. Kilcoyne arranged for her to address a meeting of the Clyde Civic Improvement Association to address such concerns, however Mrs. Kilcoyne did not inform the community about this presentation. She further states that, based on the small number of people attending (eight) the regularly scheduled July CCIA meeting, at which she made her presentation, she asked Mrs. Kilcoyne if a town meeting or further contact with the community was necessary. She indicates that Mrs. Kilcoyne stated that no other contact was necessary, that no one else would be interested. As a result of Mrs. Kilcoyne's handling of this matter, no town meeting was scheduled, no information was distributed and no other attempt was made to notify the community of this activity. As past members and Directors of the Clyde Civic Improvement Association we feel that it is imperative that the community be informed of and allowed to address this issue. Ms. Dolby agrees that such a meeting is necessary to the successful continued development of their project plans and has agreed to attend. To this end, we (not in conjunction with Mrs. Kilcoyne or the Clyde Civic Improvement Association) have arranged and announced a Town Meeting for Thursday, November 11 , 1993, at 7:00pm, to be held at the Clyde Community Center. We are therefore respectfully requesting that the Board delay any action on this matter until after this meeting, at which time we will forward to the Board the community's responses and concerns regarding this issue. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Sincerely, o df)a M . w Russ Minor Ja a Whipple 118 Norman Ave 251 Medburn Ave e, CA 94520 Clyde, CA 94520 Reta Moore Susan King 202 Norman Ave 176 Norman Ave Clyde, CA 94520 Clyde, CA 94520 Mike Flowers Dan Rainwater 118 Norman Ave 158 Norman Ave Clyde, CA 94520 Clyde, CA 94520 cc: Directors, CCIA
