THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on November 24, 1993 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Powers, Fanden, Schroder, Torlakson, McPeak
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Security Measures at County Hospital
Mark Finucane, Health Services Director, reported on
implementation of security measures at mental health wards at County
Hospital, including contracting for temporary security personnel. He
requested appropriation of funds to continue the contract for
temporary security personnel for J Ward. Mr. Finucane advised that a
Task Force of employees has met twice on security issues and is
scheduled to meet six more times prior to December 18, 1992.
Supervisor McPeak stated that she would support appropriating
additional funds for security personnel for the. next four weeks
pending report from the task force on resolution of the issues. She
referred to Frank Puglisi the name of a potential volunteer who has
expressed an interest in assisting with ,hospital security.
The following persons spoke:
Henry L. Clarke, Contra Costa Employees Association, Local 1;
Pat Risser, 326 Glacier Drive, Martinez.
There being no further discussion, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED
that the oral report of the Health Services Director is ACCEPTED.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Health Services Director is.
AUTHORIZED to continue security services at the County mental health
wards pending the report from- the Health Services Director on
meetings with the Task Force and/or concurrence with the County -
Administrator and represented groups on resolution of the security
problems.
In additon, IT IS ORDERED that the Task Force be expended to
include a mental health client.
