HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11241992 - 1.17 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Honoring ) THE SAN FRANCISCO !1FOUNDATION for ) RESOLUTION NO. 92/ 797 Presenting the Koshland Awards ) The San Francisco !wFoundation is known throughout the Bay Area for its generous awards to local agencies and individuals. In 1982, the Daniel E. Koshland Civic Unity Award was developed to be presented to the dedicated leaders of struggling communities. This year' s focus was on North Richmond. Each award consists of a $1,500 prize to an individual who has shown tremendous commitment to the North Richmond community. Also, the winner receives $5,000 to be given to the North Richmond agency of their choice; land an additional $5, 000 goes to the winner' s organization annually over the next four years. Twelve people were honored on November 5, 1992, during a memorable ceremony: Bobby'{ Bowens--Alcohol, Drug, & Violence Prevention Specialists for Opportunity West; Henry Clark--Executive Director of West County Tolxics Coalition; Robert Creer--Director of Race Relations for Richmond Unified School District; Claudette Garner-- Director of Healthy Tomorrows for East Bay Perinatal Council; Arthur "Bubba" Godfrey--Outreach Worker for Neighborhood House of North Richmond; Taalia Hasan--Executive Director for West Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau; Annette Lerma--Director of the AIDS Project for Familias Unidas; Jacqueline Malbrough--Education Counselor for Neighborhood House of North Richmond; Comilas Robertson--Director for Richmond Police Athletics League; Choy Saephan--Outreach i�hWorker for Neighborhood House of North Richmond; Martha Watson--Drug & Alcohol Counselor for Shields Reid Community Center; and Margery Woodard--North Richmond Community Activist. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors THE SAN FRANCISCO1FOUNDATION for presenting the Koshland Awards. This is a unique a!`pproach towards civic improvement and unity, and we appreciate these efforts. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON November 24, 1992, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
