IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Honoring the )
Volunteers of LEFTOVERS THRIFT ) RESOLUTION NO. 92/731
SHOP )
Leftovers was founded in 1976 by Jane Jones and Molly Nelson
expressly to raise funds for Crisis and Suicide Intervention of
Contra Costa (CSI).. The operation of the Thrift Shop relies solely
on 65 volunteers and no paid staff.
Although Leftovers is a separate non-profit agency, most of the
money generated by Leftovers is given to CSI. . Between 1976 and
1992, it donated more than a quarter of a million dollars; and for
the lean fiscal year 1992-93, Leftovers has committed to increase
support to CSI , including paying the phone bill of approximately
$2,000 per month. ; Leftovers also pays the entire salary expense of
the Community Education Program staff and maintains the Leftover
Emergency Fund used to house and feed county residents in critical
situations.
Without the contributions of Leftovers and its volunteers, CSI
would not be able to provide the vital service of crisis and
suicide intervention to the citizens of Contra Costa County. We
extend our gratitude to these compassionate and generous people for
donating their time for the betterment of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors
the volunteers of LEFTOVERS THRIFT SHOP.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON November 3, 1992, by a unanimous vote of the
Board members present.
