HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10131992 - 2.3 (3) IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming ) October 12 - 18, 1992 as ) "California County Hospital Week" ) RESOLUTION NO 9 2/6 9 2 WHEREAS, county hospitals serve the poor and the uninsured as well as the community at large by providing primary health care along with many specialty services and emergency services; WHEREAS, county hospitals inspire and train dedicated health care professionals, protect access to health services, and improve the health status of society; WHEREAS, county hospitals further the compassion, dignity, professionalism, and respect that the health profession has with regard to serving those without access to care; WHEREAS, a comprehensive and integrated health care system provides the foundation for building healthy communities; WHEREAS, Merrithew Memorial Hospital is the cornerstone of Contra Costa County's health-care system, with links to outpatient clinics, public health services, community hospitals and community-based health-care programs; WHEREAS, Merrithew Memorial Hospital operates a fully-accredited Family Practice Residency Program, affiliated with U.C. Davis, that is recognized as one of the finest in the county; WHEREAS, Merrithew Memorial Hospital provides vital back-up services to John Muir Medical Center -- Contra Costa County's only trauma center -- enabling that trauma center to remain economically viable and continue providing those life-saving services; WHEREAS, Merrithew Memorial Hospital provides hospital care to more than 23,000 members of the Contra Costa Health Plan--the County-sponsored HMO--including thousands of county employees and small business employees; WHEREAS, Merrithew Memorial Hospital is nearly always near capacity and is providing care to increasing numbers of pregnant women,psychiatric patients,AIDS patients and elderly patients; WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors recognized the critical role played by Merrithew Memorial Hospital as a safety net hospital, and on March 3, 1992, voted to replace Merrithew Memorial Hospital, culminating more than a decade of discussion and debate; WHEREAS, the California Legislature passed a resolution recognizing the important contributions of public hospitals and health systems and designating October 12 - 18, 1992 as California County Hospitals Week'; i A% NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California hereby PROCLAIMS October 12 - 18, 1992 as "California County Hospitals Week" in Contra Costa and hereby honors and commends Merrithew Memorial Hospital for its dedication and valuable contribution to maintaining health care services for all residents of Contra Costa County. 1992 .
