Honoring Rev.James Curtis Manning
on the Occasion of his 31st Anniversary
as the Pastor of the Church of God in Christ -
V41EREAS,James Curtis Manning was born on July 16,1925,in Quitman,Mississippi,to Clayton Lee
Manning and Pearline Hearns-Manning;
he attended Silverina Elementary School and graduated from Shirley Owens High
School. He came to California on July 1,1944,to obtain better employment and upgrade his living conditions.
He attended Diablo Valley College.
he worked as aluminum operator at Allied Chemical where he retired on October 1,1978;
V4HEREAS, Rev. Manning was the State Regional President of the Mission Department and is
currently a member and superintendent of the California Northwest Jurisdictional Executive Board;
WHEREAS,Rev.Manning founded the West Pittsburg Community Church of God in Christ in1953
and the Pittsburg District of Churches of God in Christ in 1963;
he is the founder,chapter member,and executive treasurer of the Inter-Denomintional
Ministerial Alliance-of Pittsburg;
during his 31-year tenure as Pastor,his indefatigable spirit,his love fo rhis commuity and
years of dedicated community service has been a sterling example;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors does
hereby honor Rev.James Curtis Manning on the occasion of his 31st Anniversary as the Pastor of the West
Pittsburg Church of God in Christ and commends him for his dedicated service to the community.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 13th Day of October, 1992.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an Order entered into the minutes of
said Board of Supervisors of the date aforesaid.
