Recommended Action: ADOPT a Resolution supporting the implementation of the signing of interchange exit numbering and mileposts by the California State Department of Transportation. II. Financial Impact: None III. Reasons for Recommendations and Background: Contra Costa County has extensive interstate routes and freeways providing access to the many areas of interest to visitors from this country and from abroad. The Federal System of Highway Mileage Markers and Exit Numbers is currently used by all of the other 47 contiguous states, while California has it own unique system of freeway markers. In the interest of uniformity of service to the travelling public, the California Department of Transportation should be encouraged to adopt the Federal System. IV. Consequences of Negative Action: Visitors may continue to have problems in identifying freeway access to their destination.
