SUPPORT SERVICES FOR THE FAMILY PRESERVATION PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUEST($)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the Social Service Department Director or his designee to negotiate and execute contracts for support services to be provided for the period of July 1, 1992 through March 31, 1993 with the following agencies: AGENCY PAYMENT LIMIT West Contra Costa Youth Services Bureau $ 22 , 858 Familias Unidas 9, 143 Family Stress Center 18, 096 Pittsburg Pre-School Coordinating Council, Inc. 20, 420 East County Youth and Family Services 20,420 TOTAL $ 90,937 FINANCIAL IMPACT: These contracts are to be funded with 100% state AFDC Foster Care funds for a project that will end April 31, 1993 . BACKGROUND: The Family Preservation Program . is a state project which is to last two years. The project began with the state on April 1, 1991. Prior to this date the County had initiated the program in East County under a private foundation grant. The project is now in the fourth year in Contra Costa. The purpose of the Family Preservation Project is to continue family unity of identified families that without help would result in one or more children entering into foster care. These providers were chosen through an RFP and authorized by the Board of Supervisors for an initial 6 month contract on October 8, 1991 for a period of January 1, 1992 through June 30, 1992 . NEGATIVE IMPACT: Not authorizing this action will jeopardize the continued unification of families and increase the cost of foster care.
