SUBJECT: CONVEYANCE FROM PG&E FOR IRON HORSE TRAIL,
FORMER SOUTHERN PACIFIC RIGHT OF WAY - SAN RAMON AREA

SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) &BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. Recommended Action:
A. APPROVE License and Agreement to Convey Real Property with the Pacific Gas and Electric
Company and AUTHORIZE Board Chair to sign said documents on behalf of the County.
B. ACCEPT Grant Deed from the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
C. APPROVE Easement Deed to Pacific Bell and AUTHORIZE the Board Chair to sign same on
behalf of the County.
D. ACCEPT Quitclaim Deed from Pacific Bell.
II. Financial Impact:
None.
III. Reasons for Recommendations and Background:
Pacific Gas & Electric Company is currently constructing a new Learning Center on its property
on the south side of Crow Canyon Road, abutting the former Southern Pacific right of way.
PG&E proposes to convey, without cost to the County, fee title to a uniform strip of land nine
feet wide which runs north/south along the County's westerly property line. The County's right
of way at this location is only fifty feet wide. The land being conveyed by PG&E will be used to
accommodate the construction of a segment of the Iron Horse Trail. In consideration for this
conveyance, the County will issue to PG&E a license for parking facilities on the right of way.
If at some time in the future the County requires

Pacific Bell is to quitclaim an easement for existing facilities within the strip of land in exchange
for an easement covering their actual location.
IV. Consequences of Negative Action:
Future development of this segment of the County's right of way will be limited by its size and
multiple uses.
