In the recent past, our purchase of new beds has been from Hill-Rom. It is our goal to standardize equipment whenever possible, especially in those areas involved with direct patient care. The Hill-Rom has been used as the standard in our maintenance of equipment; obtaining and inventory of parts; training of technical and professional staff. Better repair and future equipment upgrade is easier and more cost efficient if one consistent manufacturer is in use. The Hill-Rom bed offers a variety of unique revolutionary systems that are only offered by this company. The unique features include: * a sleep surface system composed of two electronically controlled air systems that can be activated by the nurse. This system can reduce the risk of developing pressure sores and would eliminate the need for egg crate mattresses which would realize an annual savings of approximately $106,000. * bed exit system: this feature is exclusive to Hill-Rom and prevents/reduces bed falls by activating a sensor alarm when a patient egresses from the bed. The system operates at the discretion of the staff and will be of extreme value to the frail, unstable, or confused patient who is prone to forgetting to ask for assistance in getting out of bed. * instant CPR: The instant CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) exclusive to this manufacturer is an innovation which saves vital time in critical situations. It reduces the time required to lower the head section of the bed to position the patient for CPR. * safety sides: This uni ail system reduces patient injury .L I Contra Costa County =.-3018 r3.871 by virtue of their "tuck-away" feature. * night light: Another safety and security feature this night light provides a focal point for staff by lighting the area under the bed. It is our intention to purchase four (4) of the Advance 2000 beds and 59 of the Advance Platform beds with the intention of upgrading for future addition of the dynamic air support system once additional funds become available. The attached bid includes the trade-in of existing equipment. The salvage of the equipment and the specific units will be determined at a later date prior to delivery (at which time a list of beds traded will be provided). Again, thank you for your consideration and endorsement of this request. Feel free to contact me if you need any additional information.
