Furthermore, that staff contact Don Eggleston, State Office of Printing, at (916) 327-4174 for further information and evaluation. BACKGROUND: A new type of ink is now available to printers as a substitute for conventional petroleum-based inks. Using soy derived vegtable oil as the carrying agent, soy-based ink is beneficial because it releases, on average, less than one-third of the amount of the volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) released by petroleum-based inks. Soy-based ink also makes it possible to attain higher levels of print quality, producing less paper waste during the printing process. In addition, residual soy-based ink sludge is less toxic than its petroleum-based counterpart. — )CONTINUED ON ATTACHMENT: YES SIGNATURE: RECOMMENDATION OF COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE APPROVE OTHER SIGNATURE(S): ACTION OF BOARD ON January 21 1992 APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED.X—.
