FISCAL IMPACT None. BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS The General Manager of the East Bay Regional Park District wrote the Board on December 16, 1992 requesting the County to support the District on their request to the State to designate the Point Pinole Regional Shoreline Park as a State Point of Historical Interest. Point Pinole was historically used as granite powder works from 1882 to 1906. Subsequently, Giant Powder and Atlas Powder Works were established. Giant Powder was the first U.S. manufacturing plant authorized to manufacture TNT under a license from Albert Nobel. Staff recommends the Chair be authorized to sign the attached letter in support of this request.
