TO: Board of Commissioners DATE: January 14, 1992
FROM: Perfecto Villarreal , Executive Director cc:
SUBJECT: CONTRACT WITH SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
FOR FOOD SERVICE TO HOMELESS FACILITIES
IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Authorize the Executive Director to execute an extension of an Interdepartmental
Service Agreement with the Sheriff's Department from November 1991 through November
1993, for the provision of food services for the homeless shelters administered by
the Housing Authority.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Under the service plan specified in the Agreement between the Housing
Authority and the Sheriff's Department, the West County Detention Facility will
provide meals for residents in several Homeless Shelters under the direction of
the Housing Authority at a cost of $5.50 per day, per person served. Funds to
pay for this food service have been budgeted in the Housing Authority's Homeless
Program Budget.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
The Sheriff-Coroner Department of Contra Costa County has been providing
food service to the West County Shelters at 845D Brookside Drive and 847
Brookside Drive, Richmond. This food service has been very satisfactory and
both the the Sheriff's Department and the Housing Authority wish to continue
this agreement for the provision of food service.
At its regular meeting on November 25, 1991, the Advisory Housing Commission
recommended the approval of the extension of the inter-department agreement
with the Sheriff's department and moved to forward this recommendation to the
Board of Commissioners for their review and approval . Attached is a copy of
the agreement for your review and approval .
IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The Sheriff's Department would cease to provide food service to the homeless
shelters administered by the Housing Authority. The Housing Authority would be
forced to seek another provider of food service. This discontinuation of the
food service contract would have a negative impact on the budget of the
Sheriff's Department.
