Spooner, Contracts Administrator Costa DATE: August 20, 1992 County SUBJECT: Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-214-3 with ! Therapy Connection, Inc. SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve and authorize the Chair to execute on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-214-3, effective July 15, 1992, to amend Standard Contract #26-214-1 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #26-214-2) , effective November 1, 1991 through October 31, 1992 , with Therapy Connection, Inc. , for provision of physical and occupational therapy services at Merrithew Memorial Hospital and Clinics. This Contract Amendment Agreement will increase the contract payment limit by $35, 000, from $50, 000 to a new total payment limit of $85,000. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: This Contract is included in the Health Services Department Enterprise I budget for FY 1991-92 , and is included in the Department's projec- tions for FY 1992-93, to be funded by salary savings generated through vacant physical/occupational therapy positions, which the Department has been unable to fill due to a nationwide shortage of qualified physical and occupational therapists. Approval of this Contract Amendment will result in a payment limit increase of $35, 000, from $50, 000 to a new total payment limit of $85, 000. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: On November 18, 1991, the County Administrator's Office approved and the Purchasing Agent executed Contract #26-214-1 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #26-214-2) with Therapy Connection, Inc. , for physical/occupational therapy services at Merrithew Memorial Hospital and Clinics. The Department continues to be unable to fill vacant physical and occupational therapy positions, and has had to rely heavily on registry therapists, when they are available. The increase in the payment limit is due to increased patient activity which the Hospital has experienced and expects to continue. Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-214-3 will allow the Contractor to ' continue providing therapy services through October 31, 1992 .
