Area ) RESOLUTION NO. 92/598
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County California Rideshare Week/Beat
the Back-up Day Task Force, comprised of representatives of the local
jurisdictions, as well as representatives from RIDES for Bay Area
Commuters and Major Private Employers of Contra Costa County, have held
networking meetings to bring the message to Contra Costa County Resi-
dents of the activities of the statewide campaign to "Keep California
Moving" during "Rideshare Week" (September 14-18, 1992) and specifical-
ly to "Beat The Back-up on Thursday, September 17, 1992; and
WHEREAS, the use of ridesharing and public transit as a means of
transportation in California has the potential to reduce fuel consump-
tion, air pollution, traffic congestion, transportation costs and
parking needs; and
WHEREAS, the public and private business community in Contra Costa
County has recognized the importance of ridesharing and public trans-
portation as an effective, low-cost solution to many transportation and
and environmental issues; and
WHEREAS, September 14-18, 1992 has been PROCLAIMED "Rideshare
Week" in the State of California by Governor Pete Wilson, and the nine
Counties of the San Francisco Bay Area recognize Thursday, September
17, 1992 as "Beat The Back-up Day. "
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County RECOGNIZES September 14-18, 1992 as "Rideshare
Week" and September 17, 1992 as "Beat The Back-up Day" by encouraging
the use of ridesharing and public transit to reduce traffic congestion
and to conserve energy.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board members present
on this 8th day of September.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
a resolution entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the
date aforesaid.
