SUBJECT: Increase of Project Contingency Funds and Approval of Contract Change Order Nos.
11 and 12 for the Miranda Avenue Bicycle Route Project in the Alamo area, Project No.
0662-6R4128-89
Specific Request(s)or Recommendation(s) &Background&Justification
I. Recommended Action:
APPROVE Project Contingency Fund increase of $13,500.00 and Contract Change Order Nos.
11 and 12 in the approximate amounts of$6,000.00 and $7,500.00 respectively, and AUTHORIZE
the Public Works Director to execute them in order to compensate the contractor, Vintage Paving
& Grading, for work resulting from changes in design and field conditions.
II. Financial Impact:
The source for the increase in the contingency fund will be the Alamo Area of Benefit.
III. Reasons for Recommendations and Background:
The cumulative total of Contract Orders Nos. 1 through 12 exceeds $25,000.00, requiring Board
approval. The original contract plans were modified since the contract was first awarded to
Vintage Grading and Paving. Additional quantities of asphalt concrete were generated by a
revised typical road section for the modified plans. In addition, during the course of the roadway
excavation work on the west side of Miranda Avenue, unsuitable subgrade became exposed.
This and other unforseen conditions resulted in additional force-account work.
IV. Consequences of Negative Action:
The lack of approval would preclude payment for work required.
