RECOMMENDATION•
Authorize the Director of Social Service to submit an application
to the State Department of Education for 30% of the Federal Block
Grant Child Care and Development Services funds to be allocated to
the County.
BACKGROUND:
The State Department of Education (SDE) released a Request for
Applications (RFA) for Federal Block Grant Child Care and
Development Services funds in November of 1991. A summary of Block
Grant distributions by County was attached to the RFA indicating
that Contra Costa's allocation is $840, 000.
Prior to the issuance of this RFA, the Contra Costa County Child
Care Task Force operating under State and Federal planning
guidelines, formulated a County Plan for expenditure of these funds
and established priority groups to be served. The Task Force
submitted its report and priorities to the Board on August 13,
1991.
The Board approved the following priorities and percentages to be
allocated to each priority:
1. 32'% for infant/toddler care in West Contra Costa County
2 . 28% for infant/toddler care in East Contra Costa County
3 . 10% for school age care in North Cen 1 Contra Costa
