Direct Community Development staff to examine the feasibility of this technology and the costs associated with it. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: As planning proceeds for the material recovery center/transfer stations in Contra Costa County, it is important to consider the market useability of waste paper that cannot be recycled and the potential market for paper cubes for energy. There is currently a shortage of wood waste for energy production. Refuse derived fuel could help supplement this market while saving space at our landfill . One investor is looking into retooling the Gaylord papermill boilers to process 400,000 tons a year of such clean burning fuel. i CONTINUED ON ATTACHMENT: YES SIGNATURE: .RECOMMENDATION OF COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE APPROVE OTHER SIGNATURE(S) ACTION OF DOARD ON 9 l 99 7 AP►`ROVED AS RECOMMENDED OTHER VOTE OF SUPERVISORS ,..
