FINANCIAL IMPACT: No additional staffing costs. No additional training costs because slots will be in existing homes. Maximum annual Respite Care (all County funds) of $6, 400. BACKGROUND: The Specialized Placement Program provides enhanced foster homes with 24 hour-a-day care and supervision to children ages 7 to 18 who cannot be maintained in a regular foster home, but could be placed in a specialized home. Parents in these homes have been specially trained and/or have extensive experience qualifying them to handle specific, serious behavioral and emotional problems presented by the children in their care. Social Services is dealing with an increasing number of referrals. Not authorizing this action will reduce the number of disturbed children who would benefit by the more structured family-like setting and who would otherwise be referred to larger, more restrictive and more expensive group homes. e.
