HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11051991 - 1.39 1.37 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter Recognizing ) the 30th Anniversary of the ) Richmond-Shimada Sister City ) Relationship ) Resolution 91/ 716 Whereas, sister city affiliations are part of the International People-to-People Program which grew out of a White House Conference in 1956 and consideration of a sister city program for the City of Richmond began in 1959; and Whereas, after finding that the City of Richmond and the City of Shimada, Japan had much in common, steps were taken during 1961 to establish a sister city relationship culminating with the December 18, 1961 vote of the Shimada Assembly (its city government) to affiliate with Richmond; and Whereas, on March 12, 1962, the Richmond City Council adopted a resolution creating the Richmond-Shimada Friendship Commission. Thus, Shimada observes 1961 as its anniversary year, and Richmond celebrates 1962 as the anniversary year; and Whereas, the Shimada-Richmond Friendship Association of Shimada, Japan is sending its 18th Friendship Group to Richmond November 25. - 29, 1991 as part of its 30th Anniversary celebration; Now, Be It Resolved by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County that the cities of Shimada, Japan and Richmond, California be congratulated on their successful sister city relationship on the occasion of the 30th -Anniversary of the affiliation.
