" ) RESOLUTION NO. 91/ 696 WHEREAS, a movement called "P.O.W./M.I .A. " has been formed in .an attempt to place .and keep facts before the American people documenting that many Americans, mostly military men, whose heroic sacrifice in World Wars I, II, Korea, and Southeast Asia are becoming increasingly recognized, who, may in fact, may still be alive, but have been abandoned and forgotten; and WHEREAS, the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee Minority Staff has published a report, "An Examination of United States Policy Toward POW/MIAs" which is available by calling ( 202) 224-3941 or by writing to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, 452 Dirksen Office Building, Washington, DC 20510-3301, and anyone who wishes to contact the new Temporary Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs should call Vice Chairman Senator Bob Smith (of New Hampshire) at (202) 224-2841. Locally contact "Bring Them Home!" at ( 510) 937-1405; and WAS, the California State Legislature continues to support this very important movement by flying the POW/MIA flag over the Capitol, and any interested parties or supporters of this movement should place this logo on bumper stickers, t-shirts, decals, posters, buttons, in commercial ' advertising, and many other formats, acknowledging resolutions by local government bodies, families, churches, businesses, clubs, lodges, organizations, committees, associations and many other groups; and WHEREAS, some might ask: "Why the month of November?" We would respond: "Because November' s first national holiday, formerly Armistice Day, now Veterans ' Day, turns Americans ' thoughts toward loved ones who sacrificed so much in preserving our freedom; and November' s second national holiday, Thanksgiving, recognizes and calls us to be thankful for our many blessings, including our freedom. " During November we join with many others in encouraging increased understanding and awareness of this POW/MIA issue; and WHEREAS, each and every county throughout the State of California as well as nationwide, is encouraged to recognize and proclaim the month of November as POW/MIA "Bring Them Home! " NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, does hereby SUPPORT and PROCLAIM November as POW/MIA "Bring Them Home! " month in Contra Costa County. PASSED AND ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board of members present on this 22nd day of .October, 1991.
