OSTq ty DATE: October 14, 1991 SUBJECT: Board Resolution Re: Support Caltrans' grant application to the California Transportation Commission for Capitol Corridor rail passenger service initial operating funds SPECIFIC REQUESTS) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS Adopt Board Resolution (see Exhibit A) in support of Caltrans' request to the California Transportation Commission for initial operating funds for Capitol Corridor rail passenger service. FISCAL IMPACT None. BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS .The� California Transportation Commission is scheduled on Thursday, October 17, 1991 to act on Caltrans ' request for approximately $4,5 million to initiate operation of Capitol Corridor rail passenger service between Sacramento and San Jose. Contra Costa County will be directly served by the Capitol Corridor service with scheduled stops at Martinez and Richmond and with interconneting bus service to other County destinations. This initial service will provide County residents with 3 daily round trips to Sacramento and East Bay/South Bay destinations. The Transportation Committee has reviewed this matter and recommends the Board adopt a resolution in support for Caltrans' request to the California Transportation Commission for Capitol Corridor operation funding (see Exhibit A) . Bay/South Bay destinations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors for the County of Contra Costa strongly recommends that the California Transportation Commission 'approve the initial operating funds for the Capitol Corridor Rail Passenger Service.
